A man was shot in the parking lot of a hospital after colliding with a security officer and fleeing, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The man, who SLED has not identified, was shot by a security officer in the parking lot of the McLeod Regional Medical Center on Dec. 11 in Florence, according to a news release.

The incident began when the man, while driving a 2016 Kia Soul, hit the vehicle of a security officer at the hospital, the release said. The security officer called for backup, prompting another officer to attempt to stop the man’s vehicle.

The man did not stop and was eventually shot by the second security officer during the encounter, according to the release.

No security personnel were injured during the incident, while the man driving the Kia was taken to the hospital for treatment, the release said.

No other information was available as the investigation is ongoing, according to SLED.
