Pedestrian killed in Richland County hit-and-run

A male pedestrian was fatally struck early Thursday evening in a hit-and-run collision in northeast Columbia, police said.

On Sunday, the victim was identified as 71-year-old Columbia resident John Corbett, according to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford.

Corbett was hit around 6 p.m. Thursday in the 5400 block of Farrow Road, the Columbia Police Department said. That’s between Varn and Busby streets, in the vicinity of a Cheap Way gas station.

At the time, the circumstances of the crash were unknown.

The department’s Traffic Safety Unit was investigating.
