A 22-year-old man who was sought in connection with a fatal shooting in a residential Aiken neighborhood earlier this year has been arrested, authorities said in a statement.

Sabastyen Miles Greene, of Aiken, who was wanted for murder in the death of William Lee Mathis Jr., 42, turned himself into police shortly after 2 p.m., the Aiken Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

An arrest warrant states that Greene approached Mathis Jr. near the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Chesterfield Street on the night of Sept. 18 and pointed a firearm at him in an attempt to rob him. An altercation ensued, according to the warrant, and Green shot Mathis Jr. once in the chest.

Police responded to the scene and found Mathis Jr. unconscious. He was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, the warrant states.
