Traffic stop leads to trafficking charges for two Midlands men, South Carolina cops say
Two South Carolina men were arrested on drug trafficking charges following a traffic stop Monday in the Midlands, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Sumter residents Randolph Leron Lemon, 40, and Marquell Ikeem Stevens, 25, each were charged with trafficking in fentanyl, trafficking in cocaine and distribution to sell, purchase or manufacture crack cocaine, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday in a news release.
Stevens was also charged with driving under suspension after deputies learned his license was suspended (fourth offense) and he had the status of habitual offender, according to the release.
The vehicle Stevens was driving was stopped Monday afternoon at a safety license checkpoint at the intersection of Pack Road and Marley Court, the sheriff’s office said. That’s in an area of Sumter near the junction of U.S. 15 and U.S. 521.
The drugs were discovered at the checkpoint and both men were taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center where they are awaiting a bond hearing, according to the release. Information about the quantities of the drugs found inside the vehicle was not available.
