A man was arrested at a Columbia Walgreens after randomly stabbing a patron multiple times, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Jermaine Nedd, 47, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook.

The stabbing occurred at Walgreens, located at 4467 Devine Street, at around 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, a news release details.

When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a male victim with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, the release said. Although the victim survived, he remains in critical condition.

Nedd was prevented from leaving the scene until officers arrived, thanks to, police say, a “brave citizen,” who intervened by disarming and detaining Nedd.

“Investigators have determined that this matter is an unfortunate random act of violence with no provocation by any involved parties,” the release said.

Nedd was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
