Khadeidra Thomas brought her 17-year-old son to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department this week so he could turn himself in on a murder-related charge.

She landed in jail with him.

Thomas, 40 and her son, Darius Walker, were arrested in connection to the shooting death of a 15-year-old on Quinton Lane, according to a news release. Walker, who was charged with accessory after the fact of a felony/murder, is the third juvenile charged in the crime.

Earlier this month, Sheriff Leon Lott said he would begin holding irresponsible parents criminally accountable for their children’s crimes if they were. His department initially charged the mother of a 13-year-old who admitted shooting and killing a sheriff’s K9. Last week, the mother of a 14-year-old accused of murdering the 15-year-old on Quinton Lane was arrested.

Thomas is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obstruction of justice.

An investigation found that Walker hid the firearm used to kill the 15-year-old on December 16, 2024, according to a news release. A warrant for his arrest was announced by deputies on Jan. 9.

On Wednesday, Thomas brought Walker to the sheriff’s department to turn himself in, a news release said. But before she could leave, she was also taken into custody and accused of initially helping Walker evade deputies and later providing false information to conceal his whereabouts, according to the release.

“We will continue to hold parents accountable when they choose to condone or participate in their child’s criminal activity,” Lott said in the release.

Both Walker and Thomas were booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
