UPDATE: No foul play suspected as body of missing man found near Black’s Bridge

The body of 66-year-old Henry Lee Brooks was located Tuesday afternoon in waters near Black’s Bridge, the Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said.

Foul play was not suspected in Brooks’ death, but an autopsy would be performed, Foster said.

Emergency response teams from Newberry and Saluda counties along with S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department participated in a two day search for Brooks after his car was found early Monday abandoned on Black’s Bridge (SC 391) near the Newberry/Saluda county line.

Family and friends told investigators that he had not been heard from since Saturday, which was unusual. Deputies searched areas where Brooks has been known to go, and they also have interviewed the Brooks’ family and friends.

Newberry County’s Water Rescue Team and DNR divers were called in to perform a diving operation around the bridge.
