Coroner identifies 21-year-old dead from gunshot wound in SC. Sheriff is investigating
One person is dead from a shooting in South Carolina, according to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
Officials said that a shooting happened at about 6:45 p.m. on Thursday at the 100 block of Pine Circle in Monetta. A Batesburg-Leesville man, who was injured in the shooting, was first driven by an unknown person to his mother’s residence. His family drove him to a medical clinic, and Lexington County EMS was called.
He was taken to Lexington Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the body around 8:35 p.m., according to Aiken officials.
The coroner’s office was called to to Lexington Medical Center on Thursday around 9 p.m. to investigate. The deceased man was identified as 21-year-old Remedee Jennings-Leaphart.
An autopsy was performed in Newberry on Friday.
The coroner’s office and the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.
