SC man killed in early morning crash where a driver left the scene, officials say

A Midlands man was killed Monday in a hit-and-run crash, according to South Carolina officials.

The victim was identified as 62-year-old Orangeburg resident Ricky Jamison, Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle said Tuesday.

The collision happened at about 8 a.m. Monday, according to Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Jamison was walking south on Belleville Road, Glover said. Near the intersection with Cherry Lane Jamison was hit by an unknown vehicle that was driving south on Belleville Road, according to Glover.

Jamison died at the scene, Fogle said. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, according to the coroner’s office.

The driver of the unknown vehicle left the scene, Glover said.

No other injuries were reported in the crash that continues to be investigated by the Highway Patrol and coroner’s office.

Through Sunday, 33 people had died on South Carolina roads in 2025, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, at least 948 people died in crashes in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least two people have died in Orangeburg County crashes in 2025, according to DPS data. There were 46 deaths in the county in 2024, DPS reported.
