Man who was shot in Columbia later died, Richland County coroner says

A man who was shot in Columbia Monday morning has died, according to the Richland County Coroner’s Office.

Patrick Martin, a 50-year-old Elgin resident, was identified as the homicide victim, Coroner Naida Rutherford said Tuesday.

At about 10 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 5700 block of Farrow Road, police said. That’s in a part of Richland County between S.C. 277 and U.S. 21/North Main Street.

Police said they found an injured male, ultimately identified as Martin, and he was taken to an area hospital and later died.

Following the shooting an elderly man was detained for questioning, police said.

Investigators believe there was an argument between the two family members before the shooting, according to police.

No arrests have been reported, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

The shooting continues to be investigated by police and the coroner’s office.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
