Lyman mayor arrested, charged with wiretapping, misconduct in office

Lyman Mayor Rodney D. Turner has been arrested on wiretapping and misconduct in office charges.

Turner also has been charged with public official, misconduct in office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry said.

Wiretapping carries a fine if convicted of up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $5,000 or both, Berry said. Misconduct in office carries a penalty if found guilty of up to 10 years in prison and public official, misconduct in office, carries a fine if convicted of $1,000 and up to one year in prison, he said.

Arrested along with Turner was Gary Christopher Martin, 65, of Inman, who was charged with wiretapping, and computer crime act, value $1,000 or less, third degree-first offense.

Turner and Martin were booked at the Spartanburg County Detention center.
