Multiple people were shot and one of them was killed in Richland County, SC sheriff says

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public for help following a deadly shooting.

The shooting happened March 13 in the 100 block of Westbridge Road, the sheriff’s department said Monday in a news release. That’s in Columbia, in the area between Hard Scrabble Road and Rabon Road, near Exit 19 on Interstate 77.

Multiple people were shot, and one of the victims died, according to the release.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the victim who was killed.

Information about the number of other people who were injured, and their conditions, was not available.

The sheriff’s department said there was a delay in reporting the fatal shooting because it “needed to gather as much information as possible,” including the identity of the deceased victim, prior to sharing a release.

There was no word about a shooter or shooters, or anyone else involved in the gunfire. Information about a possible motive for the shooting was not available.

No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by the sheriff’s department.

Although no arrests have been made, the sheriff’s department said it does not believe there’s an ongoing threat to the community.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 803-576-3000, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.

“We need the public’s help piecing together what occurred before the shooting,” the sheriff’s department said.
