Richland County man arrested after being chased on ATV, sheriff’s deputies say
A Richland County man is facing multiple charges after a string of thefts and a shooting that led sheriff’s deputies to chase him down when he fled on an all-terrain vehicle, law enforcement said.
Steven Mosley, 34, was arrested Wednesday after leading Richland County sheriff’s deputies on an ATV chase that ended when he crashed the stolen vehicle, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
The incident began when deputies were called to the 100 block of Pleasant Drive north of Eastover, after a man was shot outside his home. Deputies had the shooting victim transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators then determined that earlier in the morning, Mosley had broken into a different house on Pleasant Drive and stolen a rifle and a golf cart, they said.
He then drove the golf cart to the victim’s house and stole his side-by-side ATV. The victim then arrived home and noticed his neighbor’s golf cart parked outside. Mosley then approached him on his ATV and robbed the victim of his cell phone before shooting him in the lower body, the sheriff’s department said.
Deputies then located Mosley riding on the ATV, and the suspect led deputies on a brief chase before crashing the vehicle, the department said. He was arrested after a short foot chase and a struggle in which he attempted to grab a deputy’s firearm, law enforcement claimed.
After his arrest, deputies also tied Mosley to a strong-arm robbery the day before, in which he allegedly assaulted a man and stole his phone on the 10000 block of Garners Ferry, the sheriff’s department said in a release.
Mosley is now being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on charges of first and third degree burglary, two counts of grand larceny, one count of petit larceny, failure to stop for blue lights, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and attempting to take a law enforcement weapon.
