BREAKING: One shot in Columbia area mall. Deputies search for shooter
One person has been confirmed shot inside of a Columbia area shopping mall.
The shooting took place Wednesday afternoon inside of the Columbia Place Mall on 7201 Two Notch Road. Deputies responded to the mall at 1:30 p.m.
There is not an active shooter but the suspect remains at large, said deputy Allie Salrin with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. It appears to have been an “isolated incident,” Salrin told The State.
The status of the victim remains unknown.
As of 3:45 p.m., the sheriff’s department is actively clearing the mall and searching for suspects, and is asking that the pubic avoid the area, according to a news release.
A post on Facebook described the shooting as having taken place inside of the Macy’s. However, the sheriff’s department said that they were unable to confirm where the shooting took place inside of the mall.
The Columbia Place Mall is less than 2 miles from the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
