Student wounded in air-gun shooting at Ridge View High, sheriff says

A high school student was injured Wednesday after being shot by an air-powered gun while on campus, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

At around 11:30 a.m., deputies responded to an area hospital in response to a Ridge View High School student suffering from a gunshot wound from an air-powered gun, according to a news release. The student is in stable condition.

After discovering that the shooting occurred on Ridge View’s campus, deputies alerted the school’s resource officer, who has since begun an investigation, the release said.

While the shooting remains under investigation, there is no active threat to Ridge View High School, according to the release.

The type of air gun used was not disclosed.
