Sumter County deputies have charged a man with domestic violence after he allegedly attacked his wife following an argument the couple got into over the amount of pain medication the man should be taking.

Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said Biscayne Johnson, 36, of Sumter, was charged with second-degree criminal domestic violence in connection with the incident.

An incident report filed following the incident said deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of Hideaway Drive on Saturday evening in reference to a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they spoke with a victim who said her husband, Johnson, got into a scuffle after he took more than the recommended dosage for his pain medication.

The victim said in the report that Johnson became angry and abusive during the argument. The victim then took the bottle of pills and attempted to hide in the bathroom. Johnson allegedly entered the bathroom and pushed the victim into the bath tub, holding her down by her neck, and took the pills from her.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
