Columbia police after a person was found dead in a home on Thursday afternoon.

Police responded to a home on the 1000 block of Kinard Court around 3 p.m. Thursday, where they discovered the person dead of unknown causes, WACH FOX reported. The home is off Main Street a block north of Elmwood Avenue.

Multiple emergency vehicles were seen in the area Thursday as the death was investigated. The individual has not been identified.

Police Chief Skip Holbrook told WLTX that because of “the condition of the body, we can’t say if there was any trauma [or] if it was natural.” Holbrook said the death would be investigated as suspicious until authorities can establish a cause of death.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office was on scene Thursday. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Friday.
