SC man was stopped for speeding but is in trouble for what was in car, cops say
A recent traffic stop led to a drug trafficking charge for a South Carolina man, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Anthony Dwayne Pringle, a 25-year-old Sumter resident, was arrested May 11, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. Pringle was charged with trafficking in meth or cocaine base, according to the release.
Pringle was stopped on U.S. 378 after a Sumter County deputy saw him speeding, the sheriff’s office said. During the stop, the deputy found Pringle was in possession of more than 10 grams of cocaine base or methamphetamine and approximately $10,000, according to the release.
Pringle was arrested and taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, while the drugs and money were seized and placed into evidence, the sheriff’s office said.
Bond was set at $25,000, and Pringle was released the following day, according to the release.
Despite the arrest, the sheriff’s office said an investigation is ongoing.
When he was pulled over, Pringle was out on bond, Sumter County court records show. On Aug. 18, 2024, Pringle was charged with cocaine trafficking, as well as two counts of weapons possession and a drug possession charge, according to court records. His bond was set at $42,500 on those combined charges which are pending, court records show.
Pringle was not the only person arrested on a drug charge following a recent traffic stop in Sumter County.
A vehicle was pulled over May 8 and two Sumter residents were arrested, and one of them was charged with trafficking in meth or cocaine base as well as manufacture, distribution, possession of narcotic drugs, according to the sheriff’s office.
Tyshawn Shyheem Bell, 26, was denied bond after being arrested on those charges, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver, 28-year-old Tyreko Brown, was charged with driving under suspension and released on $647.50 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
