SC woman stole over $62,000 from her employer for her personal use, cops say

A woman was arrested for stealing more than $62,000 from the South Carolina business where she worked, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Ashley Ardis, 42, was charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent ($10,000 or more) on May 7, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Over 18 months, Ardis used company credit cards that were entrusted to her for her personal gain, according to the release. The name of the business where Ardis worked was not available and there was no word if she was fired.

Ardis made purchases by defrauding the company for more than $62,000, the sheriff’s office said.

There was no word about what personal items Ardis bought with the stolen money, or if all of it was spent.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office helped take Ardis into custody, and she was booked into the Sumter County detention center. Bond was set at $2,500 and was posted the same day the Sumter resident was arrested, Lee County court records show.

Despite the arrest, the sheriff’s office said an investigation is on-going.

If convicted on the felony charge, Ardis maximum punishment of 10 years in prison, according to South Carolina law.
