2 SC teens charged with attempted armed robbery of food delivery driver
Two South Carolina teenagers have been charged after trying to rob a food delivery driver at gunpoint.
On Thursday afternoon, a food delivery driver was at North Pointe Estates, an apartment complex located at 100 Ripplemeyer Ave., when a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old claimed they ordered and paid for the food after the driver arrived at the apartment complex, according to the Columbia Police Department.
The driver checked information on the delivery app and realized the teens were lying and returned to his car, where three relatives, including two children, were passengers.
Police said video surveillance showed the 13-year-old standing in front of the victim’s vehicle, trying to keep him from leaving, and the 14-year-old is accused of having a gun while banging on a car door window.
No injuries were reported.
The 14-year-old was charged with attempted armed robbery, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm under the age of 18.
The 13-year-old was charged with attempted armed robbery, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy.
A gun was seized from inside a North Pointe Estates apartment for evidence, and investigators with the Crime Gun Intelligence Unit found that it was reported stolen from Georgia.
“This crime is yet another example of children carrying firearms and committing adult crimes,” Columbia police chief Skip Holbrook said in a news release.
The teenagers were taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, according to the police department.
