The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office has identified Martell Riley, 37, of Orangeburg, SC, as the victim of a hit-and-run early Sunday morning.

Riley, a pedestrian, was found dead along Belleville Road when authorities arrived at the accident scene around 5:45 a.m.

After conducting an autopsy on Tuesday, the coroner’s office said that Riley had died from blunt force injuries as a result of being hit with a vehicle.

The coroner’s office previously reported that Riley had no identification on him when he died, leading authorities to turn to social media for help in identifying him.

The S.C. Highway Patrol hasn’t identified the driver responsible for the collision, but the patrol released a statement saying that the driver may have been driving a Toyota or Lexus that likely has front end damage from the crash.

“Everything is still under investigation. We have no new details,” Lance Cpl. Brittnay Glover said in regards to finding the driver.
