A man was charged with murder after deputies discovered a male victim dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Cody Segura, 27, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following a shooting that occurred Monday around 5 p.m., a news release said.

Deputies initially received a call about a domestic disturbance on the 1500 block of Chain Gang Road, which is near Eastover in Lower Richland. The call was upgraded to shots fired, according to the release.

When they arrived on scene, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim, who has not yet been identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office, was pronounced dead on the scene.

Segura was then detained by deputies and transported to a field office for questioning. He was later charged and booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing, according to the release.
