Teen charged with murder after being arrested in Lexington County, SC cops say

Little more than a week after a teenager’s lifeless body was found on the side of a South Carolina road another teen was charged with murder, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to murder, 17-year-old North Augusta resident Marquis Edric Robinson was also charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, the sheriff’s office said Thursday in a news release.

Robinson was arrested Wednesday by the Cayce Police Department, according to the release. Cayce is in a part of Lexington County that is more than 60 miles from Robinson’s home and about 57 miles from where 18-year-old Tranard Sheppard’s body was discovered.

At about 1:50 a.m. on June 22, deputies responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the area of Sarah Street and Farrell Street, according to the sheriff’s office. That’s where the Henson Manor trailer park is located, in the Warrenville area of Aiken County.

Sheppard was found in a yard by the road in the 400 block of Sarah Street, the sheriff’s office said. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office was called and Sheppard was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:56 a.m., according to Coroner Darryl Ables.

Sheppard had been shot multiple times in the body, Ables said.

No other injuries were reported.

Information about how Robinson was identified as the shooter was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.

No bond has been set for Robinson, who is locked up at the Aiken County Detention Center, jail records show.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the 2nd Judicial Circuit Solicitors Office, and members of the ATF and U.S. Marshals Service assisted in the investigation.
