Lexington Co. jail inmate dies after being transported to hospital, sheriff says

An inmate at the Lexington County Detention Center died after being taken to the hospital, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Morgan Daniel Kannaday, 25, was pronounced dead Friday at an area hospital after being transported from the Lexington County Detention Center, according to a news release.

Kannaday was arrested on June 29 by the South Carolina Highway Patrol for a traffic offense, a DUI and a drug charge, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Coon said in the release. He had been detained at the detention center since his arrest.

Information about the cause of Kannaday’s death was not immediately available.

The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department requested the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigate Kannaday’s death.
