Two people were shot and pair of teenagers are arrested, SC sheriff says
A pair of teenagers have been arrested more than a month after two people were shot in South Carolina, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Christian Frederick and Dion Briggs, both 18 years old, each were charged with two counts of attempted murder as well as possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday in a news release.
The charges are connected to a June 8 shooting in the 10000 block of Two Notch Road, according to the release. That’s near the intersection with North Brickyard Road in a part of Columbia that’s densely packed with restaurants, automotive related businesses and retail stores.
At about 8:30 p.m. June 8, deputies responded to a report of gunfire and found two victims who had been shot, the sheriff’s department said.
EMS took both victims to an area hospital for treatment, according to the release. Further information on the victim’s conditions was not available.
An investigation identified Frederick and Briggs as the shooting suspects, as well as a vehicle — an older Honda — used during the incident, the sheriff’s department said. There was no word about how deputies connected Frederick and Briggs to the shooting.
On July 11, Frederick was taken into custody, and during a search several guns were seized, according to the release. One of those firearms was confirmed to be a weapon that was used during the June 8 shooting, the sheriff’s department said.
Briggs was arrested on July 21, according to the release.
While Frederick’s bond was denied, a $150,000 bond was set for Briggs, the sheriff’s department said. That bond has not been posted and both teens remain locked up in the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.
Frederick, a Columbia resident, is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 26, according to Richland County judicial records. Information about a date for Briggs’ next court appearance was not available.
Information about a motive for the shooting was not available, and there was no word if Frederick and Briggs knew the victims prior to the gunfire. Both Frederick and Briggs as well as the victims were shooting at each other, according to an incident report.
