Two motorists exchanged gunfire following a road rage incident in Florence County, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office. One driver has been arrested.

Monxavior Jatrabian Oumari Williams, 21, was arrested and charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle after a road rage incident with another driver on Friday, a news release said.

The incident began in Darlington County and proceeded into Florence County via Georgetown Road, police said.

Once in Florence County, both drivers stopped and confronted each other outside of their vehicles, the release said. Following the verbal confrontation, Williams and the other driver — who was not identified — left the area.

After traveling a short distance, the unidentified driver found Williams standing in the road behind his car, wielding a rifle before he began firing at the driver, the release said.

The driver returned fire, prompting Williams to leave the scene, according to the release.

It’s unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident as it remains under investigation by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, which added that additional charges may follow.

Williams was booked into the Florence County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing, the release said.
