A juvenile will be charged as an adult after confessing to stabbing an elderly and vulnerable woman to death, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff Leon Lott announced Wednesday that Trinity Goodwin, 17, was charged as an adult with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, following an altercation at the 2000 block of Faraway Drive on July 29, a news release said. There, deputies found an elderly woman suffering from stab wounds, a news release said.

The woman, who was vulnerable and bound to a wheel chair, was taken to a local hospital before she succumbed to her injuries, according to the release.

Deputies, while at the stabbing scene, were alerted by witnesses as to Goodwin’s whereabouts.

Upon questioning, Goodwin confessed to the murder and recognized that the woman was in a wheelchair and vulnerable, the release said.

Goodwin was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and is awaiting a bond hearing.
