Three people shot in early morning gunfire, South Carolina sheriff says

Three people were shot in South Carolina early Sunday morning, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the 3300 block of North Main Street in Sumter, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies found a victim who had been shot, along with multiple fired shells, according to the release.

The victim, who was wanted by law enforcement from a separate incident, was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, the sheriff’s office said. Further information on the victim’s condition was not available, and there was no word about why an arrest warrant was previously issued for the victim.

Two more victims from the same shooting arrived separately at the hospital’s emergency department in personal vehicles and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the release. Further information on the status of those victims was not available.

No arrests have been reported, and there was no word about a motive for the gunfire.

Deputies collected evidence at the scene, but neither the victims nor any witnesses have been willing to cooperate with the ongoing investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
