Argument leads to shooting and woman is charged with murder, SC sheriff says
A man was killed and a woman is behind bars following a recent shooting, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
McKenzie Leigh Brady, a 21-year-old Lexington resident, was charged with murder, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday in a news release.
The charge is connected to a deadly Tuesday night shooting at a West Columbia home, according to the sheriff’s department.
Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher said 57-year-old Joel Todd McCullough was the victim who died in the shooting, according to the release.
“Deputies went to the scene, which is McCullough‘s home, in the 2700 block of Leaphart Road after a 911 call about a gunshot wound,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release. “A witness told deputies he heard a ‘loud gunshot’ after an argument.”
Deputies searched the home and found a gun, according to the release.
“Brady told deputies she and McCullough knew each other for some time,” Koon said. “This was an isolated incident and detectives are still looking into what led up to the shooting.”
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the nature of the relationship between Brady and McCullough was not available, and there was no word about why they were arguing.
Deputies arrested Brady and took her to the Lexington County Detention Center, according to the release She was denied bond and remains locked up, jail records show.
