SC woman found eating ice cream, holding knife after robbing store, sheriff says
A woman was found inside a convenience store eating an ice cream bar and holding a knife after robbing the store at knifepoint, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Katrina Nicole Diaz, 39, was charged with armed robbery, three counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, after it was alleged that she robbed a convenience store on Edmund Highway Monday, according to a news release.
Store employees told deputies that Diaz walked into the store early Monday and asked to use the store’s phone, the release said. When she was told the phone didn’t work, Diaz attempted to walk out of the store with a display case of lighters.
When employees told her she couldn’t take the case, she then pulled a knife, according to the release.
The employees then locked themselves in an office as Diaz began destroying merchandise inside the store, the release said.
When a Lexington deputy arrived at the store in response to a robbery in progress, they found “Diaz standing at the back of the store eating an ice cream bar while holding a knife,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in the release.
Diaz was quickly handcuffed and detained, pending an investigation, Koon added.
She was later arrested and booked at the Lexington County Detention Center. According to the jail’s website, she has been denied bond on all her charges.
