SC corrections employee used her car to ram another vehicle, sheriff says
A South Carolina Department of Corrections employee was arrested after using her vehicle to ram another car, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Brittany Larkin, 30, was charged with first degree simple assault following an incident Thursday at the Family Dollar at 2505 Broad River Road, according to a news release. Larkin is accused of using her car to intentionally hit another vehicle in the store’s parking lot.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol initially responded to the scene, believing that a car accident had occurred between Larkin and a male victim. Upon reviewing the store’s security footage, however, it was discovered that Larkin had used her vehicle, a Volkswagen Tiguan, as a weapon, according to an incident report by a Richland County sheriff’s deputy.
While parked next to the victim’s car, a Chevy Malibu, Larkin used the front of her Volkswagen to ram the victim’s front passenger door as the victim attempted to back out of a parking space, the report said.
Larkin caused major damage to the victim’s car with two children inside her vehicle, according to the report.
It’s unclear whether either of the children were injured in the crash. The victim in the other vehicle was not.
Larkin was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and suspended from the corrections department pending further review, according to a department spokesperson.
This is a developing story.
