SC teen shot and killed in living room was target of gunfire, police believe
A teen was shot and killed while sitting in his living room, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.
Officers, dispatched to a home located at 360 Amherst Drive in reference to a shooting around 1 a.m. Saturday, found a 17-year-old male unresponsive inside his kitchen, a news release said. The teen had been sitting in his living room before being struck twice in the upper body by gunfire that came through the home’s front bay window. Police believe the shooting was targeted.
Although EMS attempted to sustain the teen, he was was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.
The boy has not yet been identified by the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting and collect evidence, according to the release.
“This appears to be a targeted incident, and it is truly unfortunate that a young person lost their life in this manner,” Major Art Littlejohn of the Spartanburg Police Department said in the release. “We ask the community to keep the victim’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
