Baby & mother reported missing after visit to Charlotte, police in Columbia say

UPDATE: On Oct. 2, the Columbia Police Department said that Alyshia Chavis and her 9-month-old son were located and safe. Information about where and when the mother and child were found, and where they had been, was not available.

A search is underway for a missing woman and her 9-month-old baby, according to the Columbia Police Department.

Alyshia Chavis, 24, and her son were reported missing by police Monday night.

Police said they learned that mother and child were missing from the 9-month-old’s father.

Investigators were told that Chavis was to return from Charlotte, North Carolina, but she has not communicated with loved ones for several weeks, according to police.

Information about when and where Chavis and the baby were last seen was not available. Police did not say if foul play is suspected in their disappearance.

Anyone who has seen the missing mother and child, or has information about them, is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit a tip online.
