Child and adult shot by gunman in passing vehicle, South Carolina police say
Two people, including a child, were injured Saturday in a drive-by shooting in South Carolina, according to the Sumter Police Department.
At about 10:45 a.m., officers responded to a call reporting a shooting in the area near the intersection of Crosswell Drive and Yeadon Street, police said in a news release. That’s near downtown Sumter, about a mile from Prisma Health Tuomey hospital, where the injured child was taken, according to the release.
The child, along with another juvenile, was walking with an adult in the area when shots were fired from a passing vehicle, police said.
The adult was treated at the scene, while the other juvenile was not hurt, according to the release. Police said the injured child and the adult suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, but further information on their conditions was not available.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, but the shootings continue to be investigated by police, who said they are working to identify the vehicle and individuals involved. There was no word if there was any connection between the shooter and the victims prior to the gunfire.
