A married couple was arrested in Berkeley County on Oct. 8, 2025, after police say they gave a child gifts in exchange for sexual favors.

A married couple in Berkeley County was arrested after investigators found they showered a child with gifts in exchange for sexual favors, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Filipe Novais De Oliverira, 39, was charged Oct. 8 with four counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and trafficking in persons, according to a news release. His wife, Lais Olivetti Silva, 38, was also charged with one count of criminal sexual conduct with a minor and trafficking in persons. The minor victim was between 11- and 14-years-old, according to an arrest warrant.

Between Nov. 9, 2024, and June 10, 2025, Oliverira and Olivetti engaged in multiple sexual acts with the child, including digital penetration and oral sex, all while Olivetti was present, according to details attached to an arrest warrant.

In exchange for sex, which investigators said occurred from once to multiple times a day, Oliverira would send money via Zelle to Olivetti who would then purchase the child gifts, including a pair of Apple AirPods, according to the warrant.

Investigators corroborated the victim’s forensic interview by reviewing Oliverira’s bank statements and text messages between Oliverira and Olivetti, where the couple discussed purchasing various gifts for the child following sex acts by the minor.

In one text exchange, police say Olivetti agreed to allowing Oliverira to be alone with the child if Oliverira would pay to have Olivetti’s stomach and breasts done surgically, the warrant said.

The identity of the child and their relationship to the married couple was not disclosed.

The couple was booked at the into the Hill-Finklea Detention Center in Berkeley County.
