SC man killed in overnight shooting at apartment complex, Columbia police say
A South Carolina man was killed Wednesday in an early morning shooting, according to the Columbia Police Department.
The shooting happened at the Columbia Garden Apartments at 4000 Plowden Road, police said in a news release. That’s in a part of Columbia between Shop Road and South Beltline Boulevard, near Jim Hamilton Owens Airport.
The Richland County Coroner’s Office identified 29-year-old Columbia resident Devonte Redmond as the victim, according to the release.
At about 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a call about a man, later identified as Redmond, who had been shot, police said. Redmond was unresponsive when officers found him outside the complex, according to the release.
Officers performed CPR until EMS arrived, and the coroner’s office was then called to the apartment complex, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about the shooter, or shooters, and how many people were involved, was not available, and there was no word on a motive for the gunfire.
No arrests have been reported, but the shooting continues to be investigated by police, who reported that evidence has been collected by officers and K-9 units.
