SC father who abused, gave child feces as Christmas gift gets 50 years in prison
A father was sentenced to decades in prison after prosecutors said he habitually abused his 8-year-old daughter physically, emotionally and psychologically.
Circuit Judge R. Keith Kelly handed down a 50-year sentence to Ian Tatro, 28, Monday after he pleaded guilty to 20 counts of unlawful neglect of a child and one count of obstruction of justice, according to the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office. Prosecutors say Tatro gave the child animal feces as a Christmas gift, made the child stand in a garbage can for hours with trash thrown on her, and restricted her from using a bathroom while making her wear a diaper.
In addition, Tatro and the child’s stepmother would routinely lock her in a closet, hit her with a cutting board and force-feed her laxatives, a news release said. Tatro also tried to conceal bruises on the child by applying temporary tattoos.
Tatro was prosecuted by 7th Circuit Solicitor Barry Barnette who said, “The amount of abuse this child suffered at the hands of adults who should have loved and cared for her is staggering.”
