SC officers find man who was killed in shooting, Columbia police say
A man was killed in South Carolina over the weekend in a shooting, according to the Columbia Police Department.
Chance M. Brooks, a 23-year-old Columbia resident, is the victim who died, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford said Monday.
At about 11:30 p.m. last Saturday, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 3400 block of Bellingham Road, police said on social media. That’s in a part of Columbia between U.S. 176 and North Main Street, not far Prisma Health Richland hospital.
Officers found the victim outside and attempted life-saving treatment before he was taken by EMS to an area hospital, according to police. Brooks was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.
No other injuries were reported.
Information about a shooter, or shooters, and the number of people involved in the gunfire was not available. There was no word on a motive for the shooting.
No arrests have been reported by police, who are continuing to investigate the shooting, along with the coroner’s office.
