Former SC teacher facing multiple sex crimes against kids lands back in jail
A former after school director and substitute teacher was charged Tuesday with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, following a dozen other charges he received earlier this year, according to the Irmo Police Department and court records.
Sulaymaan Benoit, 33, was arrested and charged with one count of first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 11, according to a news release.
The arrest followed a report by parents who said Benoit had repeatedly sexually assaulted their child between August 2023 and May 2024. The assaults took place at Green Charter School of the Midlands while the minor attended an after-school program led by Benoit, police said.
A warrant was obtained for Benoit’s arrest after the victim shared details of the assault with forensic investigators, a news release said.
On Tuesday, Benoit was apprehended by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Richland County Fugitive Task Force, according to the release.
Previously, Benoit was accused in February of fondling three students at the school and was charged with eight counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
The investigation began when a parent contacted the Irmo Police Department to report an alleged assault of her child by Benoit, Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale said at a news conference in February.
He called the incidents non-consensual and lewd.
After posting a $75,000 bond for charges filed in February, Benoit was charged in April with an additional four counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to court records.
He was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
