Man charged with murder after person was shot over the weekend, SC sheriff says
Days after a person was killed in a weekend shooting in South Carolina a man has been charged with murder, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Thirty-year-old De Anthony Lopez Huff also was charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Tuesday in a news release.
At about 1:15 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 600 block of Camp Ground Road, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
Deputies found people attempting to help a victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body, according to the release.
Deputies performed first aid on the victim until Richland County EMS arrived. The victim died at the scene, the sheriff’s department said.
As of Tuesday, the Richland County Coroner’s Office had not publicly identified the victim.
No other injuries were reported.
An investigation revealed that an altercation at Camp Ground Road between Huff and the victim led to the shooting, the sheriff’s department said Tuesday. Investigators identified Huff as the shooter, according to the release.
Huff turned himself in to investigators at the sheriff’s department headquarters Monday, according to the release.
Information about why Huff and the victim were fighting, and their relationship prior to the shooting, was not available.
No bond has been set for Huff, who is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, jail records show.
