A suspect took a police officer’s taser and tried to grab their gun amid a robbery at a gas station in Lexington County, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

On Nov. 4, an officer with the Batesburg-Leesville Police Department observed suspect taking money from a register at the Enmarket gas station on West Columbia Avenue, according to a news release.

As the officer entered the store and tried to apprehend the suspect, a fight ensued where the suspect took the officers taser and used it against the officer, the release said. The suspect then attempted to grab the officer’s handgun.

Amid the struggle, the officers service weapon discharged, but no one was struck, the release said.

The suspect was apprehended by a second officer who arrived on scene.

Both officers and the suspect were transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.
