Young woman killed, child wounded in drive-by shooting, SC sheriff’s office says

An 18-year-old woman was killed and a child wounded after someone fired shots into a home, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Sumter County deputies found Jaikailah Richardson dead in a home on Picardy Drive after a shooting was reported at the residence, according to a news release from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. A child was also shot and taken to Prisma Health Richland Hospital, the release said.

As of Wednesday morning, the juvenile is in stable condition, according to the news release.

Someone fired shots into the home in Sumter County early Tuesday morning, according to the news release. Dispatchers received the report around 5:36 a.m.

A person of interest has been identified, but investigations are still ongoing, according to the release.
