A man from the Upstate was arrested after firing multiple shots at an occupied vehicle, according to the Spartanburg Police Department.

Akeem Hackett, 36, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime following a shooting on Oct. 17 at Crescent Hill Apartments in Spartanburg, according to a news release.

Two victims, who were traveling in a 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan, told officers they were met by a crowd of juveniles as they approached a parking lot behind building 600 in the complex. The lot, victims say, was blocked by a black SUV, which they drove around.

The crowd then surrounded the Caravan and began heckling the male and female victims, according to the release.

An altercation ensued, prompting Hackett, who the victims only knew as “King,” to ask a juvenile to “give him his stuff,” referring to a handgun, the release said.

Hackett began firing at the Caravan and struck the front passenger-side front panel.

The victims fled the area, uninjured, before calling police. Officers later recovered multiple shell casings and additional evidence at the scene of the shooting, according to the release.

An investigation revealed Hackett resided at the complex and was known as “King.”

He was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
