A caregiver was arrested after she injured a vulnerable adult — under her care — by punching the victim in the face, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Kaitlyn McKenzie Davis, 22, was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult Thursday, according to a news release. The arrest stemmed from an incident on July 2 at Midlands Regional Center, where Davis was employed as a direct support professional, according to the warrant.

The Midlands Regional Center, located at 8301 Farrow Road, is one of five state residential facilities that provides 24-hour care, supervision and treatment to the most fragile individuals living with a disability.

The warrant states Davis, while caring for a vulnerable adult at the facility, hit the resident multiple times in the head and face with a closed fist and elbow.

The victim suffered injury to their left ear and required medical treatment, according to the warrant.

The allegations of abuse were corroborated by interviews and surveillance footage, the warrant said.

McKenzie was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
