A former security officer at Wellpath Recovery Solutions was arrested after being accused of physically assaulting a vulnerable adult, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Shawn Henry Fitzhugh Sr., 33, was charged with abuse of a vulnerable adult following an incident on June 26, where investigators say Fitzhugh picked up a vulnerable adult and threw the victim to the floor, according to an arrest warrant. The assault occurred at Wellpath, located at 7901 Farrow Road, which is a contracted provider for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

The victim, who was a patient at the facility, sustained a laceration to their head as a result of the assault, the warrant said.

Allegations against Fitzhugh were corroborated by interviews, surveillance videos, and information provided to SLED, according to the warrant.

Fitzhugh was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
