A man was arrested after trying to use someone’s identity to purchase a $72,000 pickup truck, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Arias Armaine Johnson, 34, was charged Tuesday with obtaining property under false pretenses (value $10,000 or more) and identity fraud, according to a news release.

On Dec. 16, Johnson attempted to purchase a 2023 Chevy Silverado in Richland County using a stolen identity, a warrant said. The victim told investigators they hadn’t authorized anyone to purchase a vehicle in their name, and Johnson admitted he didn’t know the victim, the warrant said.

Johnson was previously arrested in June on two counts of identity fraud, possession of a vehicle with an altered VIN, and a chop shop violation of altering or destroying a vehicle ID number, according to a news release. He was then released on a $60,000 bond, court records show, and now, again, has been booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
