DNR officer targeted in shooting and there’s a search for gunman, SC cops say
A search is underway for the person who targeted a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officer in a Sunday morning shooting, officials said.
The shooting happened in Edgefield County, S.C. DNR said on social media. An exact time and location of the gunfire was not available.
The shooter, or shooters, repeatedly fired upon the officer, according to S.C. DNR.
Despite the barrage of bullets, the officer was not hurt, S.C. DNR said. No other injuries were reported.
Information about a motive for the gunfire was not available. S.C. DNR said that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is leading an investigation into the shooting.
There was no word on a shooter, or shooter, and no arrests have been reported.
S.C. DNR officials said that either a silver or light-blue colored four-door sedan was the shooter’s vehicle. Information about the car’s license plate number was not available.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call SLED at 866-472-8477, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
In the case of an emergency, always call 911.
“If you know something, say something. This will not be tolerated!” the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office said on social media. “Don’t get caught up in trying to help them.”
