One dead following Lexington County crash, SC Highway Patrol says

A car crash in Lexington County claimed the life of one person on Tuesday, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:38 p.m. on Old Chapin Road near Vista Oaks Drive, where a motorist driving a 2008 Tacoma pickup truck was headed east while the driver of a 2008 Toyota Sienna minivan was travelling west, the highway patrol said.

Both vehicles then collided, leaving the operator of the minivan dead, according to a news release.

The deceased has been identified as Cheryl S. Deichmann, 78, of Lexington, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office. Deichmann, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital before being pronounced dead, the coroner said.

The driver of the pickup truck was also transported to an area hospital with injuries, according to the coroner’s office.
