Years after a 20-year-old was killed, more men charged with murder, SC cops say
Years after a 20-year-old South Carolina man was killed, and a man was charged with murder, more men have been arrested in connection to the deadly shooting, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 17, 2023, the body of 20-year-old Batesburg resident Jatavious K. Harris was found lying on the floor of a home in the 800 block of Old 96 Indian Trail, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday in a release. That’s in Batesburg, in the area between Interstate 20 and U.S. 1.
Investigators arrested Monetta resident Jquan Kentrall Bowers on Oct. 12, 2023, charging him with murder, four counts of attempted murder and weapon charges, according to the release. No bond was set, and Bowers still remains behind bars in the Aiken County Detention Center, jail records show.
Another man connected to the deadly shooting has now joined Bowers in the Aiken County jail, the sheriff’s office said.
On Tuesday, 22-year-old Monetta resident Antavis Jaryan Pickens was arrested and charged with murder, four counts of attempted murder and weapon charges, according to the release. Like Bowers, no bond has been set for Pickens, jail records show.
Pickens was located by deputies with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Carolina Fugitive Task Force, according to the release.
Fellow Monetta residents, 27-year-old Omarious Jawan Todman and 24-year-old Daniel Timothy Harris, will be charged with murder, four counts of attempted murder and weapon charges, the sheriff’s office said. Daniel Harris also will be charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Both Todman and Harris are being held in the Lexington County Detention Center and will be brought back to Aiken at a later date, according to the release.
Information about how Pickens, Todman and Daniel Harris were connected to Jatavious Harris’ death was not available. The sheriff’s office said that “investigators have continued to work tirelessly on this case.”
Despite all the arrests, the sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the deadly shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 803-642-1761, CrimeStoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
“Community assistance is vital in any investigation,” the sheriff’s office said.
