SC child died from blunt force trauma, liver laceration. Mother arrested
A South Carolina woman was charged for the death her child, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office announced.
Jaz’Men Bristow, 19, knowingly, willfully, and unlawfully caused the caused death of her son with “extreme indifference to human life.” She was charged with homicide by child abuse, according to an arrest warrant.
In the early morning hours of Dec. 16, 2025, an unresponsive 1-year-old child was brought to the Medical University of South Carolina in Orangeburg with a body temperature of 90 degrees. He was pronounced shortly upon arrival.
The arrest warrant said an autopsy found evidence of blunt force trauma to the abdomen, a lacerated liver and several bruises to internal organs. More than 10 ounces of blood was collected because of his liver laceration.
A deputy was called to the hospital. According to an incident report, Bristow told the sheriff’s office that she and her boyfriend, Marquise Fairey, were lying in bed whole her son was laying on her chest. She said she heard a “strange noise” coming from the toddler, and after giving him some water, she rushed him to the emergency room.
